The weather held out today and the painters moved to the outside of the house after staining the basement windows and painting the garage. As a result, the garage doors, front porch and front door are finally being stained. Here are a few pictures.
Tile work was proceeding in the master bath. The interior of the shower was done and they were starting on the 4' wainscotting in the main area.
The electricians are scheduled for Monday (although I saw evidence that they had been working on the island outlets yesterday) and we are pushing to get our countertops installed ASAP. Templates were taken for them one week ago.

Exterior Paint Begins
Saturday, July 26, 2008
A wee bit of tile and the stairs are almost done.
All the durarock is down and they have finally started to lay the tile. Here is what they got done yesterday in our Master Bath.
The masking is off in the great room and kitchen, so I finally got some decent pictures in there. The island is in the front (will house sink) with the range and refrigerator along the back wall.
The sink base in the island with drawers to the right and a bookcase on the end.
Wine cubbies next to the wine fridge for "overflow".
To the right of the island is the cabinet for our Advantium and our small reach in pantry. I had two doors custom made to match the cabinet doors for the pantry.
Banks of cabinets to the right and left of the range.
The secretary in the nook.
Across the great room is the fireplace. The two windows on the side of the fireplace will have leaded glass inserts which were salvaged from an old Craftsman home and the fireplace surround and hearth will have handpainted tile to match the kitchen backsplash.
Finally, the first coat of poly went on the stair treads today. The second will go on tomorrow and the final right before we move in.

The last color is up.
We finally have color in all the rooms in the house. It looks like they need one more coat in the great room, kitchen and foyer and the painters can move to the outside. Here are a few pictures.
The dining room corner cabinets
The kitchen and nook
Here is a close up of some of the uppers in the kitchen with knobs installed.
Here are the medicine cabinets in the master bathroom. There will be tile up to the ledge and two pedestal sinks in front of the ledge. The master shower to the right of the sinks has the shower base installed and is ready for tile.
and here is the linen/vanity on the opposite wall in the master bath.
This is the mantle in the living room and the windows to the side which will hold the salvages leaded glass windows.
And finally the "pass-thru" in the laundry room from the master closet. We are still working on a design for a hinged countertop for ease access to the laundry stored within.

I've finally seen my tub!
Today I met the stone fabricator on site so that he could measure for the soapstone and granite. Of course, they had just pulled the powder room vanity to paint behind it, so he will have to come back to do that. Our GC was also there measuring and the kitchen island isn't quite right yet. The opening for the wine fridge is off by 1/8". They will need to come back and reset the side of the island with the sink.
The good news is that the remainder of the cabinetry was complete. Our window seats were installed in the TV room
the vanities were installed in the upstairs bathrooms and the desk was installed in the computer nook. I really love the desk!
In the master bathroom, the plumber had roughed in for the clawfoot tub and it was sitting in our bedroom so the tile guys could get to work. I ordered it so long ago and had never seen it. It exceeded my expectations.
Scaffolding was also installed in our master bedroom and the painters were working on staining the beam on the ceiling
We are loving the progress! It's fun to see everything unboxed.

Flurry of activity!
This may have been one of the most encouraging construction days so far. The cabinet guys were finishing up the remainder of the cabinets and were down to affixing the cabinet knobs and pulls. The drywallers delivered scaffolding so the painters could stain the beams in the master bedroom and living room. Paint was also going up in the master. Draining pipes were installed from our down spouts to the lake. Hopefully this will help with erosion and our wall (which was beginning to wash away!) The tile installers showed up but the plumbing for the clawfoot wasn't in, so they left. However, that afternoon, the plumber showed up with my clawfoot tub (yeah! I was wondering if that had really arrived) and was adding the supply and drain lines for that. The tile guys SHOULD be back tomorrow to start on the master. The only disappointment was that the granite/soapstone installer was a no show. We have rescheduled for tomorrow. I'll snap some pictures of the progress then.

The laundry room
We were a bit disappointed today because we expected the remainder of the cabinetry to be installed. The granite and stone place is coming at 10AM on Monday morning to do field measurements, so I hope they have the two remaining vanities set by then! The only real progress we noticed was that the laundry room cabinets were all installed.
These are the cubbies for the kids as you come in from the garage
This is the platform for the washer and dryer with the Blum soft close lift up cabinets above. The really good news is I can reach the upper cabinets to close them. I was sure I was going to have to rig up a string to pull them closed.
This is the wall of cabinetry next to the W/D platform. The utility cabinet on the far left is wired to house our wireless networking equipment and is centrally located in the house.
I also got the first good picture of the powder room vanity.

More color and cabinets
The painting is almost done upstairs and the cabinetry installation was finishing up on the main floor. I assume they will "flip" floors this afternoon. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the cabinet installers will finish by day's end. The remainder of the interior painting should fly after that and then we can get the tile installers in!
Here are a few pictures. This is the hall in the upper level. This is the "main" color for the house (SW Humble Gold), to be used in most of the public areas. At the end of the hall is the TV room which is painted with SW Latte.
This is the SW Recycled Glass color in the Computer Nook. This is also the color for the guest bedroom and bath.
The green in my office is a little more instense, Glidden Garden Path, but I really like the way it turned out
The cabinetry in the kitchen has all been installed. This is the main wall in the kitchen. The cabinetry on the right and left will surround our BlueStar 36" Range and hood. Our refrigerator will be recessed into the wall on the far left.
This is looking at the same run of cabinets from the living room, across the island.
On the far right, the micro/convection oven will be installed to the left of our pantry
Here is the secretary in the nook. It has lots of room for stowing mail and linens with glassware and a "bar" on top.

We have some color!
The meeting with the cabinet installers yesterday went well. I have my fingers crossed that they are there this morning beginning installation. If not, I will have to reschedule the stone guy who is coming tomorrow to do a field measurement for the soapstone and granite.
We also took delivery of our range this morning. It arrived on a very large trunk and with the help of a pallet jack, is now sitting in our garage. It took every bit of restraint I had not to unpack it.
Upstairs, they had started to paint in all the rooms that are cabinet free. This is the boys room
And the east bedroom
There was only one coat on the green in the guest bedroom, so I'll wait to post pictures on that.
The staining on the stairs were also done. I love the way they are shaping up.
We are hoping the pace continues. We are out of our rental in 19 days. We will definately need a transitional place to stay, but it would be better if it was only for a week and not a month.
