Cabinets set

Yesterday I spent the entire day at the house verifying the measurements on all the cabinetry. I found a few issue, but overall, it went smoothly. The two biggest problems were

1. One cabinet was supposed to be 21" inches deep to accommodate our wine cooler, but it was built to the standard 24" depth. I'm hoping that the finish carpenters will be able to modify this cabinet onsite.
2. Somehow, I designed our bathroom for giants. When I run the recessed medicine cabinets, I could barely see myself in the mirror! This wall will need to be modified to bring the rough opening down and perhaps the ledge behind it.

Other than a few fillers, everything else looks like it will fit.

This is the "secretary" for our nook. It will have a large glass fronted cabinet on the top which is a little taller than the side cabinets.

We have cabinets!

We unloaded a twenty foot trailer FULL of cabinets last night. I'm having trouble typing this morning, my arms ache so badly! There were so many pieces, and as we put them in place, they changed the look of every room. We didn't finish until dark so pictures will have to wait until today, but I'm so happy to finally have them onsite.

We had one cabinet slightly damaged in transport, but it should be an easy repair. I also discovered one cabinet that is 3" too deep. I thought at first that the cabinet makers had missed that it was a shallower cabinet, but I went back and checked my specifications and I had mislabeled it in two of of three places, so the blame is on me. Because it is the depth, I'm fairly certain out trim carpenter will be able to use the same face front and modify the cabinet box and drawers without too much trouble.

Today, I'll verify all the cabinet measurements and try to anticipate any questions and issues the installers may have on Monday.

Trim progress and CABINETS enroute

The cabinets are about 2 hours away from the job site! I'm resting my muscles for lots of lifting. Ouch! I'm very nervous to see them. We will set them in the house tonight and tomorrow I'll verify all the measurements and mark the cabinetry for installation, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.

The painters had also made fair progress. Here are a few pictures.

Cabinets Picked up (but not delivered)

The good news is that all the cabinetry was picked up from the cabinet maker today. The bad news is that the starter solenoid on the transport to us needs to be replaced. The plan is to have the cabinetry in the city by Sunday (instead of Saturday) but this presents some logistical issues due to work schedules. We promised the cabinetry would be set in the house by Monday morning, so that is what we need to accomplish... Pictures to follow soon!

Cabinet Completion Date Promised!

Our cabinet maker promised to call me on Tuesday to update me on the cabinet status. At 8PM, I was sure I had been stood up again, however, the call came in a few minutes later and for the first time, we were promised a completion date. We can start loading the cabinets anytime after 7am on Friday, July 11th, a mere 11 weeks after sending the cabinet specification to him! We will load them into the house on Saturday morning and hopefully the carpenters will begin installation on Monday. I really, really, really hope that this date is firm. I dread any more delays.

Cabinet update

The cabinetry, which was supposed to be done on July 4th is not quite complete. We trekked up to the cabinet makers shop again today, and while they had an immense amount done, nothing was complete. The tigering in the pieces which had been stained and finished was beautiful though and all the "odd" pieces (the mantle, the secretary for the nook, the partially recessed medicine cabinets and the built in dormer desks) were built. It looks like it is just a matter of finishing the staining and attaching the drawer fronts and doors. Here are a couple of pictures from today.

Staining begins

I went out to the house today to meet with our landscape designer. The design was done right as the foundation for the house was being dug and before the bed preparation and plant installation began, I wanted to revisit the plan. With a few minor tweaks, I believe we will be ready for installation as soon as the exterior is painted and the trench to the dock is dug.

The painters were also on site, had all our doors stained and had begun on the windows.

They anticipated finishing the stain today and applying the four coats of sealer and finish coats tomorrow.

When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised to find our mailbox on the front porch. It has more "bling" than we anticipated, but I think once it begins to weather and develop a patina, it will be great.
